GORDY & SONS: Original Oil Painting by David Southgate
"Man-Eater of Sumatra" - Original oil on Belgian linen by wildlife artist John Banovich, a longtime donor and supporter of the Dallas Safari Club - Measures 18Hx4W.

Banovich ~ "I once traveled with my friend and tiger expert Dale Miquelle to the Indonesian island of Sumatra looking for the rare and elusive Sumatran tiger. After spending time in Leuser National Park, we then traveled south to the Tambling Nature Reserve, a public/private partnership, where Tambling revealed the most beautiful and ecologically diverse landscape I have ever seen in Southeast Asia. We traveled down rivers, walked in the forest and discovered massive buffalo herds, rich primate filled canopies and lots of signs of tigers. One of the most impactful encounters we had was a tiger that had been kept in a large enclosure as he was a convicted man-eater. In fact, he was so good at his "craft", that he had killed and devoured nine people...and when I walked up to him, he let me know he wanted me to be the 10th victim. While I didn’t agree with his intentions, it became clear to me he would need to spend the rest of his days confined as he was too dangerous to be released back into the wild and I knew many local people in the community slept better knowing that."

Banovich is a "Partner in Conservation" with DSC to help generate funding for and awareness of conservation needs in wild places around the world. Best known for painting bold and dramatic scenes of iconic wildlife and nature in its most essential form, Banovich has achieved extraordinary popularity among art collectors and sportsmen across the globe. Through promotion, the artist has helped expand the DSC brand and event traffic for one of the world's largest outdoor sporting conventions.
