Generously donated by DIXIE YEATTS: This is the FINAL year DSC will offer the Bill Yeatts Memorial Hat for auction. Don't miss out on your opportunity to join the year-long tradition enjoyed by this special group of DSC Life Members. The Bill Yeatts Memorial Hat was first introduced at the inaugural Life Member Breakfast in 2006 where Bill's special friends, Phillip and Robin Smith, purchased the opportunity to enjoy the hat the first year. Phillip wore the hat in Bolivia during July at the Las Cortinas Lodge where eight hunters took more than 1,000 pigeons in about four hours. It was also worn by Phillip in Alabama at the Bubber Cameron and Sons Quail Preserve where Dixie has hunted with the Smiths. Phillip wore the hat proudly and thought of Bill every time he took to the field or picked up a shotgun! Albert Wolfe was the winning bidder in 2007 for a year of adventure with Bill's hat. Albert's story on the hat - "While with the hat I took my .470 double to Argentina to take a water buffalo, also taken on this hunt were brocket deer, axis, capybara and black buck. The hat also traveled with the family to Tanzania where many Maasai land species were taken along with a very large leopard. The hat was worn by Karen, Albert V and myself and was never out of our pack. Our thoughts were of Dixie and what she has meant to our family and DSC every time we touched the hat." The hat's third year was spent with the Allen Moore family on their special hunts. Jim Tolson took the special honor the fourth year enjoying this DSC treasure on many adventures with his hunts. Russ and Debi Young cherished the hat in its fifth year of travels. With them, Bill's hat traveled to Pakistan, New Zealand, Mozambique, South Dakota and Spain! During its sixth year, the hat traveled far and wide with Charlie Barnes. Charlie first wore it during an aoudad hunt in West Texas and then in the spring to share a special last spring turkey hunt with Jerry Peterman at his ranch. From there the hat traveled to South Africa where 12 species were taken during the filming of 5 episodes of Gone Huntin' Safaris. In its seventh year, the hat followed the Pratt family to South Texas to close out the whitetail season in January, and again for a turkey hunt in the spring. In summer the hat found itself in Africa with Kym when she harvested her first lioness, Andrew when he took his lion and Nykol & Elyssabeth as they took several species. Finally, in August the hat traveled with the Pratts to Vancouver Island for a bit of king salmon fishing on Nootka Sound. Yvonne and Steve Miller were honored to carry on the tradition in 2013. First, Steve traveled to the NRA Whittington Center in New Mexico before continuing on to Colorado for a Merriam's turkey hunt in May. One month later by way of Paris, France the hat produced a successful jungle hunt in the forests of Cameroon where Steve took a Peter's duiker, blue duiker, Forest sitatunga and a Bongo. Then Yvonne and Steve shared a Texas hunt in Fredericksburg in July where both took outstanding blackbuck trophies. In December, as of publication date, Steve has a Texas mixed-bag hunt planned in South Texas for whatever exotic trophies happen to step out in front of his crosshairs. This special donation is a 100% donation from his widow and special friend of DSC, Life Member, Dixie Yeatts.
