London gunmaker John Rigby & Co. in partnership with their Houston based dealer, Gordy & Sons, and through collaboration with Karimojong Overland Safaris (KOS) and DSC, together have all collectively created a remarkable auction lot which is a truly unique opportunity to own a piece of history, leave a conservation legacy and have a once in a lifetime 'money can't buy' experience in Uganda.
The winning bidder and one non-hunting companion will join John Rigby & Co. and KOS Safaris Uganda in supporting this unprecedented conservation collaboration, reintroducing Ugandan Kob to historic Karamoja. This outstanding package includes a limited-edition John Rigby & Co. WDM Bell .275 Rigby magazine rifle, other Rigby gear detailed below and a 7-day safari in Uganda to observe the newly released Kob and hunt other plains game species with their own Rigby Bell rifle.
1) WDM BELL .275 RIGBY MAGAZINE RIFLE: Paying homage to iconic British adventurer 'Karamojo' Bell, John Rigby & Co. has donated a limited edition 'W.D.M. Bell' model of their Highland Stalker rifle. The iconic African big game hunter is celebrated worldwide as an advocate for accurate shot placement using smaller caliber rifles, namely with his Rigby Mauser 7x57 (.275 Rigby). Based on the original 1928 Rigby rifle design as taken from the historic ledgers at Rigby, on the magazine floor plate is the engraving of 'W.D.M.B', as per Bell's original rifle. Plus, the rifle has a Rigby spoon bolt handle and Mauser flag safety as ordered specifically to Bell's specifications. Similarly, the rifle features a Mauser 98 action, as well as an ivorine front fore sight and custom design rear half-moon sight, regulated at 100, 300 and 400 yards, as per the original rifle. Presented in a vintage style canvas case, the rifle comes with a limited-edition print of the Rigby ledger book where Bell's legendary original rifle is listed, a Rigby knife and a copy of new previously unpublished stories by Bell, 'Incidents from an Elephant Hunter's Diary', signed by all the Rigby gunmakers involved in production of this rifle.
2) CONSERVATION LEGACY, KOB REINTRODUCTION PROJECT: By kind agreement with DSC and fully supported by John Rigby & Co, Gordy & Son's and KOS Safaris, the proceeds of this auction will go directly to cover the cost of the reintroduction of Ugandan Kob into the Karamoja landscape, a species present during Bell's storied time there that was lost to habitat encroachment and poaching pressure during the 1960s. Tonight's winning bidder can take great pride knowing their generosity this evening directly impacts the success of this noble cause and, as such, will carry their name (i.e. JOHN SMITH KOB REINTRODUCTION) in perpetuity. This unique lot not only is a chance to own a historic Rigby rifle of heirloom quality but offers the rare opportunity to leave a very personal lasting conservation legacy, while living a legitimate once-in-a-lifetime experience in Uganda. The winner of the auction (and one non-hunting companion) will have the chance to travel to Uganda with their new .275 Rigby Bell rifle and hunt some of the sustainably managed plains game the same way Bell did with a rifle matching his very same specification. Wilst at camp, winner and guest will also have the opportunity to observe the newly introduced Kob benefitting from this auction.
HUNT INCLUDES: 6-day plains game hunt in Karamoja for one hunter and one non-hunting guest, 1x1 guiding, trophy fees for Defassa waterbuck, Sudan oribi and Jackson's hartebeest, field prep, dip & pack service, hunting/export permits, all meals, alcoholic beverages and permanent tented camp accommodations with ensuite bathrooms. Available between January and May 2026 or 2027. See donor at Booth #1217 for costs to add days, hunters and non-hunters. Transportation is mostly by vehicle and foot with hunting done by spot & stalk.
HUNT EXCLUDES: Trophy shipping, international flights to/from Entebbe, Uganda, charter flights from Entebee to Karamoja at +/-$4,000 return if selected over drive in/out, extra nights accommodation in Entebbe as needed, before/after hunt expenses, trophy fees for additional game taken/lost/wounded, alcoholic beverages, personal expenditures and gratuities.
